Letter is a written article communicated from one person to another. Although with advanced technology, letter writing is losing its value and charm but still for some purposes it is very significant. A letter can be of business or friendly type. Writing a letter is in itself an art, one must write business letter in such a way that every thing is being described in formal way and a friendly letter should express feelings.
Business letter always written or printed on plain paper or company’s letterhead can be promotional, motivational, informational or persuasive. A business letter has to be always polite and straight to the objective. A resignation letter should state time of leaving, reason for leaving and thanks to the company for the time being employed. The complaint’s letter should be short explaining issue and relevant information along with request to take action. An apology letter can be business or friendly but in both cases it should be humble, accepting mistake and promise to not commit mistake again. An appeal letter should be reader friendly and explain briefly the situation so as to convince party to reconsider the case. A recommendation letter overviews candidate’s strengths and qualities.
Friendly letters are less formal and usually cover personal topics. They can be written or printed on plain paper, handmade paper or letter pads. A thank you note written after receiving gift, help or attendance shows appreciation and likelihood that person helps you again. Love letters should be written from heart and expressing one romantic feelings. Writing a condolence letter can be most difficult job. It should be short and show support and love to family members.
The other types of letters include invitation letters, cover letters, and letter of interest.
A letter should not be too long; it should be a pleasure to read. Short and straightforward letters with simple words in clear handwriting will make the one receiving letter easy to read. A letter should be grammatically clear and polite. Before sending a letter, a sender should always read and check it for spelling mistakes. Apart from writing letter, choosing a correct envelope is must. A standard sized envelope which can place letter safely should be used.
